The latest flash sale of Xiaomi’s Redmi 1S is being held today, September 16, 2014, from 2 PM onwards. Xiaomi and Flipkart are releasing 40,000 units this time. This is just meager when you compare it with the demand of 3 lakh bookings already made by prospective buyers.
The Xiaomi Redmi 1S is priced at Rs. 5,999/- in the Indian market and is being sold exclusively by Flipkart. “Today’s Redmi 1S sale will not include a complimentary screen protector and micro SIM card adapter,” is what is shown on the product listing page on Flipkart.
The response that the Xiaomi Redmi 1S receives today will be interesting. Google recently just unveiled three Android One OS-based smartphones one Monday, September 15, 2014. While Micromax, Spice, and Karbonn devices don’t match the Xiaomi hardware, users will be drawn towards these smartphones as they will receive regular Android updates from Google directly.
Another thing is that there are limited stocks of Xiaomi’s smartphones in India. Users also have to wait long durations to get obtain a devices. These newly launched Android One devices are readily available and will give Xiaomi a run for its money, even if priced slightly higher than the Xiaomi Redmi 1S.
The entry-level smartphone competition in the Indian market is getting hotter and harder. The arena has not turned into a battle of the manufacturers. It is also between hardware vs. performance. One thing of note is whether the Indian buyer has become mature enough to look straight through jazzy specs and focus on the useability of the smartphone when they make their purchasing decisions.
