Apple has now provided its iOS 8.1 update for download. The recent addition to the iOS 8.1 update is the Apple Pay service. Apple’s ‘Pay’ service will now allow the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2, and the iPad Mini 3 smartphone owners to pay for their products using compatible apps. They now can do this by swiping their finger on the Touch ID.
Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphone owners can now use Touch ID and NFC to pay for their products by utilizing participating store card readers. Apple Pay has already been integrated in to the existing Passbook feature. This integration now allows for you to set-up your debit and credit cards.
Apple Pay is currently available in the United States, and is expected to roll out to other countries by next year. Some 220,000 retail stores in the United States are poised to accept contactless payments. Some of these retail stores are McDonalds, Nike, and Office Depot. Other apps that will support Apple’s Pay platform are Uber, Groupon, and Airbnb.
Short Messaging Services (SMS)
Other than Apple Pay, iOS 8.1 will support the Continuity feature, which will let Macs and iPhones/iPads work together, better. Short Messaging Services from any device would be supported in both OS X Yosemite and iOS 8.1. This new feature would now allow Mac and/or iPad owners the ability to text their friends without the need to pick their smartphones.
So, there you have it; you can now message your friends who don’t use Apple’s iMessage. Apple’s iOS 8.1 update will now have the instant hotspot capability. With this, your Mac and/or iPad can now connect to your iPhone’s personal hotspot when there isn’t any Wi-Fi available.
As usual, Apple’s iOS 8.1 update includes the usual bunch of bug fixes and improvements.
