HP has launched two low-cost small form factor Windows desktop variants as alternatives to Chromeboxes and Mac mini. The HP Stream Mini PC bundled with keyboard and mouse costs $180 (about Rs. 11,500) while the Pavilion Mini PCs with the Intel Pentium CPU costs $319.99 ( about Rs. 20,000) and the ones with the Intel Core i3 cost $449.99 (about Rs. 28,000).

The HP Stream and HP Pavilion Mini are puck-sized PCs with essential entery level hardware to style up everyday computing jobs. They both with their sleek and weightless looks seem to be practical.

The HP Stream Mini, on the lines of Chromebox and Mac Mini is a compact machine weighing about 0.72kgs at roughly 52.3mm height. It with a pastel blue paint job is powered by 1.4GHz Intel Celeron 2957U (2 threads, 2 cores) along with 2GB of DDR3L/1600 MHz RAM and a SSD storage of 32GB. The Stream Mini runs Windows 8.1.

Connectivity options available are the same for both the Stream Mini and the Pavilion Mini which include Bluetooth 4.0 and last-gen 802.11n Wi-Fi with quiet lot of decent ports like SD card reader, Gigabit Ethernet port, four USB 3.0 ports (two in front and two at the back), a 3.5mm headset jack, DisplayPort 1.2 and an HDMI 1.4 socket. These seem to be good enough for machines of their size and price.

The HP Stream Mini comes with a USB keyboard and a mouse as well.

To get a bit more powered with some more of onboard storage, one can opt for the Pavilion Mini. This gets 4GB RAM, double that of Stream Mini and comes packed with a 1.7GHz Pentium 3558U processor that also gets a 500GB 7200RPM hard drive. While the other Pavilion Mini gets powered by a 1.9GHz Core i3-4025U CPU coupled up with 8GB of RAM and a 1TB 5400RPM hard drive.

Connectivity options are the same with that of HP Stream Mini but HP has given these Pavilion Mini PCs a white paint job along with wireless keyboards. The HP Pavilion Mini PCs also run Windows 8.1.


Additionally, both the Mini PCs from HP are offered with free 200GB Microsoft OneDrive storage for two years. And also they get $25 worth Windows Store credit to buy music, apps and so on.

Both – HP Pavilion Mini  and HP Stream Mini are shceduled to go on sale online from January 14 in the US and to be available in retail stores starting February 8.
