For Hyundai 2014 happened to be a great year in India. The Automaker made two back to back success launches – one was the Elite i20 which won the Indian Car of the Year award and the other is the compact sedan Xcent. So Hyundai Motor India Limited with its success in 2014 plans to continue the same even in 2015 and of course might try to follow the trend in the following years.
Hyundai India is to enter the compact SUV/crossover space in 2015 with its ix25 SUV and Elite i20 Cross. Already it was announced by the car maker of its plan to launch the ix25 in India in 2015 which is touted to be the global SUV following the Santa Fe and was first launched this October in China. With the launch of ix25 in India, the car maker is to compete with Nissan Terrano, Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster and many other similar SUVs.
Hyundai India in its latest interview said that it is to bring its latest SUV in 2015 along with newly designed Elite i20 Cross. Testing the model is already on ground by the company which is to focus rivaling with EcoSport and Duster. Not only this, the company has also informed that the ix25 in India is to get 90 per cent localization thus making it to cost low.
Let’s take a look at its reported features and specs:
As reported, the new SUV is to measure 4270 mm long with no much differentiation from its Chinese counterpart. But yes it is to bear some India-centric features and specifications. The ix25 is to borrow a lot of features from Elite i20 while the 1.4 litre and 1.6 litre diesel and petrol engines are to be taken from Verna. Though nothing is revealed about the car getting launched with AWD, it is believed to bear a price tag ranging from 8 to 12 lakhs INR. Expectation is that this upcoming SUV as like the Elite i20 and Xcent models will also become successful and popular in the country. Hyundai to have it ranking top in India has to make this SUV perform the best next year.
Further Plans of Hyundai India:
The Korean car maker is all set to rock in the automobile industry with its new launches. In 2015 it plans to launch Elite i20 Cross and ix25 SUV and for 2016 it has already planned for the debut of its MPV segment, to challenge Maruti strongly. As confirmed by HMIL’s vice-president for marketing and sales, Rakesh Srivastava to Business Standard their MPV will not be launched before 2016 as they have their crossover and compact SUV launch from the company for 2015.
Reports suggest that all the three products form the company (crossover, compact SUV, MPV) in India will not have less than 90 Percent localization.
Hyundai India aims to finish 2014 with 411,000 cars sales being its highest ever till now. The Korean car maker last Tuesday was reported to have delivered its 400,000th car in the country. With this sales strategy it is figured that Hyundai India will rank the second car manufacturer of the country to sell more than 400,000 cars/annum following Maruti Suzuki being the first.
