Amazon India has launched a new section on its website to sell refurbished smartphones. Now you can choose from a lot of refurbished phones from the Amazon India website. If you are looking for a good high end phone, but within your budget, you might find a good deal on the website. The refurbished smartphone section has been launched following an initial pilot study. Amazon India is promising to bring quality assured refurbished smartphones through this new initiative.
During the first week of August, Amazon had launched a pilot around refurbished smartphones. For that Amazon had partnered with surpluss.in, a Delhi based online retailer of refurbished and unboxed products. Under this arrangement, surpluss will sell refurbished smartphones of various companies like Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Oneplus, Micromax, Motorola and Lava. Within the first week of the debut of this initiative, according to the company statement they received more than 150 orders. “We have received more than 150 orders within a week of its debut, and are getting about Rs. 8-10 lakhs of transaction volume a day through Amazon.” said Tarun Bhardwaj, executive director of Surpluss.in.
Refurbished smartphone market is bigger than what you imagine. Even at this time when the smartphone rates are becoming dearth cheap, the sale of refurbished mobile phones constitute about 23 percent of the overall mobile market business. This would be valued at an estimated Rs. 12000 crore, considering the 20- 25 million electronic devices which are returned to the sellers every year.
The refurbished smartphones are often sold at prices which are almost 50-75 percent of the original sale price of the device. These devices have been used for twenty percent of their estimated lifespan, and also come with a six month brand warranty. This makes them much more attractive compared to buying a phone from the second hand market.
surpluss.in is very excited about their partnership with Amazon. “They entered into a partnership with us because they found our range, experience and processes matching up to their expectations”. Said Tarun Bhardwaj. They buy their products directly from the manufactures. And hence the products that you find them selling online are brand refurbished and comes with brand warranty. The pilot launch was well received by the Amazon customers, and hence the company expects good response from the Indian consumers. We hope this is a good step in the right direction by Amazon India, and probably will see the company tapping more and more potential of the refurbished electronics market.
