A robot did escape facility recently. Promobot is a Russian Android Robot. The robot is intended to be capable for moving around independently when it is ready. The creators of the Promobot were testing the limits of its Artificial Intelligence on Tuesday. The robot was using its advanced AI to tackle obstacles in the testing field. By mistake or intentional, the gate was left open.

Unable to tackle the biggest luring obstacle in the form of gate, Promobot basically decided to bounce. Wednesday morning, out of the lab the robot went, speeding through the roads. It blocked the traffic for a good 30 minutes to a complete standstill. The robot stood at the center of the city of Perm, Perm Krai, Russia.

For more than an hour, the robot attracted many fans. Children nagged their parents to let them talk to the cute object. Passer bys clicked selfies with the android happily. Drivers were nice to the robot – they did not swear at it, they just passed by the machine posing in the middle of the road.

Unfortunately, the robot quite did not get true freedom. It had just move 50 meters (164 feet) before its battery died. The road patrol service then intervened to help the poor thing standing all alone. Eventually the research lab reclaimed the poor Promobot. According to the lab, it was a mistake. The engineer had forgotten to close the gate when he left for an appointment.

“We were very nervous and feel bad that the robot has created traffic congestion,” says Oleg Kivokurtsev, co-founder of the company which had kept the robot trapped in.

Promobot is the short for promotional robot. It has been designed to attract audience to an advertised product. The robot will interact with humans realistically, will answer questions and also remember everyone it has met.
